FINGER JOINT BOARDS
An finger joint board is a kind of board made by joining long strips of wood together. The pieces are between 2 and 5cm wideand the staves can be as long as the board itself called full stave board, or about 20/30 cm long and joined end-to-end with finger joints until they reach the desired length.
The greatest advantage of this kind of board is that we can make large solid wood panels, impossible to achieve with a single log. Besides, since they’re made with small planks of wood, they allow for greater dimensional stability. When making them, the grain is alternated to reduce torsion in the resulting panel.
Finger Joint Boards are made from treated wood panels which are sequentially kiln-dried, finger-jointed, edge-glued, cold-pressed and sanded to make ready-to-use panel boards. The finger-jointing technique ensures strength equivalent to any hardwood, with the bonus of dimensional stability.
Finger Joint Boards will therefore, remain straight under the toughest climatic conditions and are very adaptable to sawing, engraving, molding or staining for the purposes of interior design.
Finger jointing results in much higher quality and stronger pieces and components, while dramatically reducing waste in our industry where the cost of raw materials is rapidly increasing.
The two most important advantages of finger jointed boards are straightness and dimensional stability. With short lengths of wood joined into longer pieces, the warping and twisting associated with regular dimension boards is minimized. The finger jointing process allows the removal of strength reducing defects to produce a product with higher engineering properties.
